Digital Health Advisory Support
On behalf of an international agency, MD+A provided strategic advisory support for the procurement and implementation of digital health solutions. This support included advising on system selection, procurement planning, and implementation to ensure alignment with national priorities, interoperability standards, and long-term sustainability of digital health investments.
Health Information System Strengthening
On behalf of an international agency, MD+A developed a roadmap for strengthening national health information systems in the public sector to support evidence-based decision-making. The roadmap assessed current capabilities, identified priority gaps across governance, data, and technology, and outlined phased, actionable recommendations to improve data availability, quality, and use across the health system.
National Health System Strategic Plan
MD+A developed a 5-year strategic plan for the health system, defining strategic priorities to enhance clinical care outcomes, streamline access to services, and drive digital transformation. We engaged extensively with key stakeholders and decision-makers to gather input, ensuring the plan was comprehensive and garnered broad national support.
Municipal Digital Transformation
We worked with a municipal organization to advance digital transformation and data maturity. MD+A helped address governance gaps, operational silos, and underused resources through a phased approach, including stakeholder alignment, current-state assessment and environmental scan, and a co-designed strategic roadmap guided by digital transformation frameworks.
EMR Needs and Options Analysis
MD+A supported a First Nations health authority in northern Ontario in exploring a community-led EMR model to enable coordinated, high-quality care. The project included developing guiding principles and future-state EMR governance options through consultations with the health authority, community leaders, and regional care partners.
Information Sharing Framework
MD+A supported four regional Ontario Health Teams in creating a framework to establish a shared understanding of how to collect, share, and use information effectively. We helped the OHTs develop a common Information Sharing Framework outlining roles, accountabilities, and key mechanisms to enable information sharing for patient-centred care, quality improvement, population health, and performance management.
Information Governance Framework
MD+A partnered with a large academic health center to develop a shared vision, guiding principles, and an information framework for data access and use. Through consultations and co-design, the project empowered users, strengthened data governance, and delivered a practical roadmap to support high-quality care, research, and innovation.
EMR Adoption and Enhancement Strategy
With the increase in adoption of EMRs in clinical practice, MD+A assisted a provincial eHealth program by providing strategic recommendations to enhance efficiency, assess its operational and strategic direction, and ensure alignment with Saskatchewan’s health system priorities.
Privacy Operational Support Services
We supported a specialized ambulatory hospital by providing privacy operational leadership and support. Our work involved delivering day-to-day privacy support, including incident management, training, patient inquiries, access requests, and advisory services to support the organization in aligning with legislation and organizational policies. We also collaborated with clinical, technical, and governance teams to embed privacy requirements into operations and to ensure consistent compliance with regulatory obligations.
Shared HIS Implementation
MD+A supported a large multi-site health network in completing a privacy impact assessment for its shared electronic patient record system. This system transforms communication and information sharing between patients, families and their care teams and empowers patients to play a more significant role in their care journey. We identified privacy risks and provided recommendations to support compliance and safe use of the platform. This work equipped the organization with a clear understanding of its privacy obligations ahead of system go-live.
Strategic Planning and Prioritization
MD+A partnered with an Ontario Health Team to identify near-term strategic priorities and inform future multi-year planning. Through facilitated sessions, document review, and targeted engagement, we synthesized diverse requirements and initiatives into a clear set of priorities, mapped ongoing work, and identified gaps. We also refined purpose statements to strengthen alignment and decision-making, resulting in strategy materials that support coordinated action and forward planning.
Investment Case for First Nations Digital Health
MD+A partnered with a national advocacy organization to develop a community-driven approach for advancing digital health across First Nations communities in Canada. Through collaborative engagement with regional representatives and subject matter experts, we identified priority needs, capacity considerations, and foundational enablers for digital health adoption. This report equipped the organization with a clear strategy to guide future planning and funding discussions.
Information Technology Strategy
MD+A partnered with a specialty hospital to assess the effectiveness of its IT program management and support services amid significant organizational growth and service transformation. Through stakeholder consultations and a review of current workflows, we provided clear recommendations to strengthen IT leadership, streamline support models, and better align technology planning with organizational priorities.
National Digital Health Strategy
Our team developed a national digital health strategy grounded in key pillars including innovation, governance, knowledge-sharing, and information technology. The 5-year strategic plan provided a framework to guide national investments and coordinate digital health initiatives across the country, aligning stakeholders around shared priorities and supporting the effective, sustainable adoption of digital solutions within the health system.
5-Year Strategic Plan
We supported a large hospital in developing a 5-year strategic plan and laying the groundwork for a future integrated care model with local partners. The engagement included extensive consultations with internal teams, patients, community representatives, and system partners, as well as a detailed review of organizational documents and an environmental scan of sector trends. Using these insights, we facilitated a strategic planning retreat to refine the hospital’s mission, vision, values, and priorities, and translated the outcomes into a clear, actionable strategic plan for board approval.
PIA for Youth Mental Health Services Platform
MD+A supported a provincial mental health organization in assessing the privacy implications of a new virtual platform designed to streamline access to youth mental health services across multiple service sites. Our work involved reviewing planned data flows, system functionality, and governance processes to evaluate how personal and health information would be collected, used, and shared within the model.
